In April I placed an order with Spring Hill Nurseries for several root coneflower plants. I already have several in our garden, but they grow well here and the variety pack was supposed to come with more colors than we are currently growing.
It was the first time I had heard of Spring Hill and I like to try different nursery companies when I can afford it. Because of a promotion they were running, I was able to buy $20 in flowers and only pay to ship them-- so it was an offer that I could not pass up. I placed my order and then waited for them to arrive, that was a couple months ago now.
When they did arrive, I found that my order had been substituted, for actual cone flower plants instead of root plants! Instead of five root balls I was sent five living plants through the mail and they have all been planted for just about two months now.
I did receive one plant that was broken at the main stem and after contacting Spring Hill they let me know that they would send me a replacement ASAP, but I opted to wait out the first couple weeks of planting and that plant has thrived right along with the others. They are all doing very well, even with all the rain we have been getting, but their appearance next year will be the real test-- Spring Hill plants come with a lifelong guarantee, something other places offer, but don't really honor (Home Depot).
For those of you trying to get a garden of your own planted, I really like Spring Hill and recommend them. They do have a FB page where they post deals, as well as email blasts where they include other nurseries they work with that are reputable.
I don't really know what color these plants will be, but I don't really care either. I have tons of purple coneflowers, shasta daisies and black eyed susans growing in our jungle.
Give them a try.
