Salute to Girl Scouts at Kennedy Space Center

Have I told you all how much I am excited about it being the 100 anniversary of Girl Scouts? Well, I am! There is so much going on this year all over the country to celebrate, including the Salute to Girl Scouts at the Kennedy Space Center.

That's right, there is a special Girls Scout day at that awesome place in Florida where space nerd dreams come true. Remember that post I did earlier this month, telling you guys all about our trip-- The One in Which We Went to Space

In the Stars: Celestial Daily Deals Shopping Guide

I have been avoiding almost every shopping site I am signed up for in order to save up for a car and a possible family vacation. But, every once in a while one of those sneaky emails makes it through undetected and I can't help but check out what is being offered on all my favorite shopping sites.

Today happened to be one of those days where there is tons of awesome stuff offered. Here is a quick roundup of a few of my favorite celestial pieces and where you can find them:

Jimmy Choo at Rue La La
I have been obsessed with stars lately, and though I prefer the sold out leather version, the Scarlet small suede tote is adorable!

Lenten Cooking: Potato Floutas

Floutas are one of those dishes that I never even consider sharing because it was always one of those common dishes that we just had whenever. On account of my dad's health scare it has been a while since we have had floutas or any fried food, but I needed something quick and meatless to cook with stuff that was already in the fridge so floutas it was.

Fringe for the Fringe!

I'm totally loving fringe right now.

I have been obsessed with fringe ever since I saw that one magazine spread where Jennifer Aniston was wearing that short fringe skirt. Then there was the Hunter's Moon Festival where everyone was covered in leather fringe-- loved it! And of course, I love the 20's, because of all the fringe.

The Demise of My Life on Account of Pinterest

Years ago I was so focused, so driven. I rarely used the internet, even though it made everything easier.

I keep telling myself I don't know what happened. But I do. Pinterest was definitely not the first, and it won't be the last. Books have always been there, screwing things up, monopolizing my time, taking up all the space- in the house and my head.

Shamrockin' It

When I was little I used to find four leaf clovers in our yard all the time. I never even had to put any effort into finding them because they grew everywhere. I think I even have a few of them still sitting around.

We don't live at that house anymore, and I have not found a four leaf clover in years. I hunt them down online now, and they are almost always jewelry :)

2012 ESCONI Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show #Chicago

You know how I am always talking about all these nerdy things that I am interested in? Well besides astronomy and space exploration, this happens to be one of them. The interest started way before I got my first Rock and Gem Magazine, way before the National Geographic videos that I memorized word for word.

My interest in minerals and gems stemmed from afternoons spent playing behind my father's shop-- at least that's where I think it started.

Happy 100th Birthday Girl Scouts of USA!!

I could not let the day pass without mentioning the 100th birthday of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America! I grew up in scouting, all my friends were in my troop, my mom was the leader from the 4th grade on, I traveled with scouts, made scout friends all over the world, got to explore career and personal interests as a scout. Its easy to say that scouting had a big influence in my life.

I went all the way through the scouting program, minus being a daisy because the troop met during my nap time, and when I earned my Gold Award and

Eau de Tangerine! Taking Cues From the Garden

When I heard tangerine was named the color of the year I kinda cringed because orange and tangerine are not easy colors to pull off. But when I started thinking about it and looked through my own closet and jewelry cases, I realized that I have a lot more than I thought and it really isn't that hard to style.

#Chicago Flower and Garden Show, Hort Couture!

The Chicago Flower and Garden Show starts tomorrow, and for the first time in forever, it actually feels and looks like spring for the show! Usually its snowing, or has just snowed, is incredibly cold and dreary, and though the flowers are a bright spot, its hard to really get in the mood. Yesterday, when I woke up, I wanted to run around the yard to see if there was anything pushing up out of the soil-- but I resisted.

The One in Which We Went to Space! #Travel #NASA

I know I have never properly about our awesome trip to Florida last summer. I do that sometimes, share things in drips and drabs. If you're a newer reader a have no clue what I am talking about, this past year, knowing that the space shuttle program was going to end,  I took a once in a lifetime trip down to Florida to catch the final space shuttle launch.

We ended up spending two weeks in Florida, filling our time with everything NASA, getting some sun, checking out the wildlife, natural preserves, and even went to Disney World.

War Dance & The Patongo Fund

Did anyone read the book, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier?  When it came out a few years ago it really put a face on the atrocities people, and especially children, were living through in war torn African nations. Since then, we really have heard a lot more about these rebel forces that form, and effectively carry out their wars using child soldiers that are abducted from their families.

In the time that has passed since I read the book, I have spent time better informing myself about situations like this around the world. When I was younger, I spent a lot time informing myself and others about issues like this, social issues, environmental issues, and pretty much anything else that touched my life in some way.
